Visiting to the Artists
Mandalay, the center of the culture and arts in Myanmar, the last stronghold of the early Burmese kings, also said the country’s origin of traditional arts and crafts. There have many art forms like Zat troupe, Anyeint, Puppets, Myanmar dances, Traditional music, and many festive performances.
The best way to get a feel for how hardy traditional artists become the most influential citizen in Myanmar under the impression of the past royal culture. So, this is experiential travel to sign up for popular culture in Mandalay, just to the backstage of the traditional artists.
A different experience for you here in this program and to help the safeguarding of Myanmar traditional culture, not only engaging an urban cultural trip in Mandalay but also to interact with one of the traditional artists in the local cultural context of classical music and dance.
Then to the tapestry workshop to study the art of making it. Shwe chi hto (called in Myanmar) or golden embroidery has been one of the most famous crafts in Mandalay, especially during the monarchy period when gold and silver tapestries embellished all the members of the higher class in society of the royal past time. Now a day, shwe chi hto has been recreated by fashion designers for haute couture. It’s delightful to be there and learn how this intangible cultural heritage element has been withstanding the social and political transformations in Myanmar.
On the way back to the city, we stop at a local teashop for lunch. There have not only Myanmar sweet tea and coffee but also several snacks like cakes, Samosa, Paratha, Indian dosa, Puri. As the option for lunch, you can choose tea salad, chicken curry, mutton curry, fried chicken with white rice.
After lunch at the local teashop, continue for the River Journey to Mingun’s rich history and its spectacular religious monuments and the daily ritual of the community by the local boat of Irrawaddy.
A River journey to Mingun
Mingun,11 km upriver from Mandalay, on the opposite (western) bank by furry boat, Mingun is the best place for those who like local surroundings away from the hustle and bustle life. Explore many historical monuments, including Pathodawgyi Paya (massive and unfinished temple), Touchable Mingun Bell (biggest ringing bell in the world), the architectural beauty of Myatheintan pagoda (also call Sinphyumashin Paya with a unique shape of it) and some unique pagodas and historical relics.
In this once ancient sight, you can discover a real, local life from farmers to shoppers on the way and in the village. Enjoy a stunning river sunset on the boat on the way back to Mandalay. The tour will end after dropping at your hotel.
Optional Activity: The traveler can invite traditional Marionettes Artists to come along with the boat when you go to Mingun. It’s relevance contributing to the safeguarding of the tradition of Myanmar Marionettes (Myanmar String Puppetry and the dying art one), during the boat ride to Mingun, and return to Mandalay (more or less1:30 hours). It’s an extraordinary experience with this art, and educative workshop from the local artist on how does Myanmar Professional and Souvenir Marionette/Puppet makes differently and how to manipulate the professional one.
Guaranteed that it’s a cultural interaction with local such opportunities for genuine exchange between the traditional artist and traveler.
Note: The honorarium for those traditional artists has to put directly into the hand of local artist Family (15000 Kyat-per/artist – mostly 3 or 4 artists) as MUL just provided for a unique experience and learn about ancient traditions.
